Update (5/22/2012): I have still been doing off and on development for the next version.  As I have had less time to work on this program, I am going to release “nightly builds” in Dropbox.  Before contacting me about test versions of the program, please read the text document titled “Important Note About Test Versions”.

Update (5/3/2012): I have an unfinished test version of the next update HERE in Dropbox.  If you are having issues on Mac/Linux or receive a “System cannot find the save to path specified” error when you shouldn’t, this should fix it.  I hope to “officially” release this version soon.

Update (4/24/2012): There appears to be an issue when saving files on Linux.  I will be looking into the issue and releasing a patch hopefully within a few days.

Try the beta release for Imgur Album Downloader v1.0!  After receiving requests from users for new features after posting the last version, I spent several days trying to bundle multiple features into one release (including the most popular: Download all of a Redditor’s Imgur links in both comments and posts).

I have done some tests on my own for the new features, however I am looking for feedback on this release.  If you notice anything out of the ordinary let me know in the comments or by email at skylark95atc@gmail.com

About Imgur Album Downloader:

Imgur Album Downloader… a small Java application that I wrote to solve a problem I had.  I know that there are other programs already on the web like this however the most popular one contained ads and I really dislike ads being placed in programs.  Since it is a Java program, it also has the benefit of working on multiple operating systems.

New in Version 1.0 beta:

• Download all Imgur images from a Reddit user – By entering the URL to a Reddit user profile, the program will download all images the user has posted in either links or comments.
• Save to field history – Program will save a user defined number of previous entries for the save to field, preventing the need to browse for a folder every time you open the program.  This feature can be disabled by checking the “don’t save history” box.  Previous entries can also be cleared using the clear history button.
• Create a new folder for album – The title of the folder can be based on either the album title, gallery URL, or a custom title defined by the user.
• Better error handling – If an image is not found or cannot be downloaded, the program will skip to the next available image instead of presenting an error.  The errors will then be printed to an error log.
• Upgraded status notifications – A little bit more detail will be given in the new status bar area at the bottom of the program.
• Program update notifications – If a new version is available, the status bar will mention it.
• Cancel button – A Cancel button will replace the OK button when downloading image

How to use:

To download all images for a Reddit user:

1. Enter a URL to a Reddit profile (example above)
2. Select where you would like to save the images
3. Select what name the program should use for the album folder
   1. If you choose _Title or URL_, the program create a folder named after the Reddit user
   2. If you choose Custom Title, enter the name you would like to use in the _Custom Folder Title _field
4. Optional: Enter how many entries in the Save to field you would like the program to remember in the History entries field
   1. If you do not want the program to remember where you saved your images, simply check Don’t save history
   2. If you would like to clear your Save to history, click the Clear History button
5. Press _OK _and watch the status area at the bottom
   1. NOTE: Fetching the images for a Reddit user can take some time, especially if they have a lot of posts and comments.  If you would only like to download images from the past few days or weeks, press the Cancel button once after the program has fetched some images.  If you press Cancel twice (or when the status bar says Downloading…) it will cancel the download.

To download an Imgur album:

1. Enter a URL to a Imgur album
2. Select where you would like to save the images
3. Select what name the program should use for the album folder
   1. If you choose Title, the program will create a folder named after the album title
   2. If you choose URL, the program will create a folder named after the last 5 characters of the album URL
   3. If you choose Custom Title, enter the name you would like to use in the Custom Folder Title field
4. Optional: Enter how many entries in the Save to field you would like the program to remember in the _History entries _field
   1. If you do not want the program to remember where you saved your images, simply check Don’t save history
   2. If you would like to clear your Save to history, click the Clear History button
5. Press _OK _and watch the status area at the bottom
   1. NOTE: If you would only like to download the first few images from the album, press the Cancel button once after the program has fetched some images.  If you press Cancel twice (or when the status bar says Downloading…) it will cancel the download.

What is this settings.ser file?

This file keeps the saved settings for the program.  The first time you start the program, it will create this file.  If you do not keep it in the same directory as the .jar file, your settings will be lost.

Cannot start the program?

If the program is not working, be sure that you have downloaded and installed the correct version of JRE 7 to your computer.  Then start the program by double clicking on the .jar file (If on Windows you may also launch it by clicking on the .bat file).
